Low-maintenance native with fragrant single pink 2" blossoms in June. One of the most common wild roses. Low to medium-sized shrub with dense red canes. Glossy dark green foliage turns red-orange in fall. Bright red ½" hips mature in August and can be harvested for tea, jams, and a variety of other uses or left for the birds to eat throughout the winter. Suckers freely into an excellent barrier or hedge, creating a habitat for wildlife including nesting birds, reptiles, amphibians, spiders, bumblebees, honeybees and assorted beneficial insects.
