Fragrant fully double blossoms start ruby red and progress into deep purple-red tones with yellow stamens at the tail end of blooming. A superb cutflower. Blooms are nearly rainproof on compact shrubs. This heirloom predates its introduction to market in 1937; it’s been a stalwart companion in the peony garden for nearly a century.
