Rosa rugosa3x3' R. rugosa hybrid. Also knows as Snow Pavement 6446. Baum, Germany, 1986. Soft pink buds open to very faint lilac-white blooms that are practically white but most definitely not so. Some say slightly pink, but we see purple. You might say white “infused with lavender” as Bob Osborne notes. Whatever you call it, the color is soothing to the eyes. A personal favorite of John’s. Semi-double (12–16 petals) fragrant and recurrent from from early June through summer. Loose low shrubby form spreads slowly but suckers here and there. Red hips. Clean foliage, disease resistant. Rosa rugosa hybrids We no longer offer straight Rosa rugosa seedlings. Many wonderful old and new roses carry rugosa in their parentage (sometimes of an undetermined amount), and we have not observed these hybrids to be harmful to the environment. However the State of Maine legally requires us to include this statement: rugosa: Invasive species, harmful to the environment. Do not plant in coastal environments, especially on or near sand dunes. Alternatives: Bayberry and red chokeberry.
